Osama’s DEAD!….So?

This video sparked wild celebrations across America. People across the World were happy but still wary. Why?

Let’s look at it this way. Remember how famous countdowns are in Sports, New Year’s Eve and in general, celebrations across the World? So let’s start a terrorist countdown as to how many are still left since that May 2nd CIA strike in Abbottabad,Pakistan.

With Osama, it’s 1 down!

Here comes the weird part. Nor do I know how many are left before terrorism is vanquished or the amount of time it is going to take to silence them.

May 13,2011: 140 killed,80 injured in Charsadda, Pakistan after twin blasts at an Military Academy. The first open retaliation after Bin Laden's death.

After much consideration, I feel Bin Laden was a dead man walking 10 years ago when he ordered/planned the horrific World  Trade Center attacks. There is no way you walk into America, kill about 3000 people and walk away without getting hurt. Maybe a Third World Country where people would mourn and the government wonder helplessly about what it should have done. But not in the strongest country in the World. They mourned, yes, but the American government knew right away what exactly had to be done-Al Qaeda destroyed and Osama Bin Laden killed.

Osama Bin Laden’s task though, was already complete. I’m pretty sure people will realize this once I elaborate further on my claim. Even Osama  would have known that it was inevitable that one day he would be hunted down. The fact that he evaded death for 10 years is surprising, considering the amount of people, technology and time that were invested for his execution.  What’s more, his final destination being inside Pakistan, a country that survives on American aid, raised even more eyebrows. Controversies aside, terror lost it’s face , it’s symbol and Bin Laden’s delayed end finally came about. To anyone interested in how it went down, this might be a good summary. Another video on the men who caught him while here is a report on the mastermind behind the whole operation.

25 June 2011: 35 killed and more than 60 injured in car bombings in Afghanistan.

The reason I was skeptical about this being a  revolutionary change was because Bin Laden’s task was not merely to declare war on America. His deeds did something far worse than taking innocent human lives. He spread fear among people. Fear which would transcend to hate, intolerance and ignorance. An entire religion was falsely branded to be “evil” and “malicious” with it’s believers facing persecution and general condemnation all over the globe. A simple term, Jihad, taken from the Muslim’s sacred text Koran, was anointed as the war cry of religious fanatics all over the world. Global relations suffered, trust became scarce and all hopes of a peaceful new civilization, one still reeling from the effects of 2 World Wars and countless other strife’s, were completely destroyed.

Fear turned to anger leading to intolerant and ignorant behavior

The worst affected, as usual, was the common man. Terrorist’s all over the globe took their cue from Bin Laden’s supposedly bold act of religious justice and rained mayhem everywhere. Bombs would go off in places of worship, schools, shopping markets, trains and just about everywhere they could slip any explosive. People were scared to step out of their houses. An increased amount of hostage situations appeared out of nowhere.  People responded  by voting for different governments in the hopes of safety but no one could really do much about  such attacks because of 2 primary reasons:

1) Terrorist organizations have infiltrated countries under the radar for years. Their activity hasn’t been of much concern to people apart from a few isolated incidents which were usually tagged as “regional tensions” rather than national security issues. Hence, they have the advantage of a head start. Ignorance resulting in bullets in this case.

2)  Among the oldest of human sins: treachery. When people on the inside betray their motherlands, either in the greed of money or after a brainwashed session of fanatic ideals, there is nothing that our friendly neighborhood terrorists can’t do to destroy the calm of a normal day.

Bin Laden started what was supposed to be a thing of history. I am reminded of the Crusades that the Middle Ages are so infamous for. Then, like now, men with vested interest considered it their “moral responsibility” to wreck havoc in the name of God. How odd it seems that the very sacred texts that these people refer to while defending their actions advice human beings to forgive, maintain peace and tranquility, love anyone that comes their way and most importantly, abhor violence. The culture of blood and gore seems to be the order of the day. Each day we hear increasing reports of vandalism, riots, genocides and just about all forms of oppression fathomable to human beings.

Among all this hopelessness and supposed darkness, something new has been seen. People have started fighting back in their own ways. Not everyone, but still a considerable amount. The advent of the internet has forged an unlikely alliance of peace lovers and people with a decent amount of common sense all across the globe. The result? The Arab Revolution of 2011 comes to mind first where the simple cause of a fruit seller has led to conflicts all across the Arab world as people refuse to suffer at the hands of their incompetent rulers. The beauty of the matter though, was the worldwide support of the movements. People from different backgrounds spread the message of peace in just about any way they could. Be it blogs, tweets or even Facebook status updates, people were not letting themselves get drowned under the lies that mainstream media has been so successful in propagating.

So maybe Osama’s war shall be that turning point when mankind finally understood that it’s differences were non-existent. People are the same, regardless of the color of their skin or the Gods they put their faith in. It is our deeds that ultimately set us apart and for humans to survive, we must first trust and love our fellow brothers and sisters without any bias of any sort. And then we must hope.

There is something about the background score that makes you believe..

Internet Wars: Why it is time to finally fight for the Internet

Wow, doesn’t that seem like an outrageous claim considering I compared a “material” good to other more virtuous things, including life itself? The greatest power that lay in the hand of [...]

    The Economics of Terrorism

Terrorism? And Economics? Frankly these 2 topics seem to further apart than most discussed on this forum. While the former generates images of bloodshed and falsified dogma, the latter has more of an educated and sensible touch to it. That however isn’t really the case as revealed in this thought provoking TED session by Italian economist Loretta Napoleoni who sold her own house to fund the research into the Italian terrorist organization, the Red Brigade, and came up with some [...]
